The Union of Concerned Scientists is very excited about Illinois’s community solar program. Many Illinois residents do not have the ability to install solar on their own roof due to the upfront cost, the fact they are renters, or the size and position of their roof. Community solar allows all residents access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy for their communities. The Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA) calls for 400 MW of community solar projects to be developed by 2030. Now is the time to have conversations with communities, municipalities, and developers to get these projects built. Jessica Collingsworth, Union of Concerned Scientists
